Beccy Barr is a journalist and presenter at BBC North West Tonight.

Alongside her role on North West Tonight, Beccy can also be found around the BBC including stints presenting BBC Radio Lancashire's breakfast programme,  covering business news for BBC Radio 5 Live, presenting Sunday Politics North West and reporting for BBC Inside Out.

Before joining the BBC, Beccy spent 5 years as a presenter at international financial news broadcaster CNBC in London where she fronted the morning programme Capital Connection and as well as anchoring Squawk Box Europe, Worldwide Exchange and European Closing Bell.

During that period she broadcast from locations around the UK including the London Stock Exchange, trading floors around the City, the Bank of England and 10 Downing Street. Beccy also travelled around the world broadcasting from Moscow on the presidential election and Madrid on the general strike, as well as travelling to Brussels,  Dublin, Paris, Cannes and Warsaw to cover breaking news.

Previously, Beccy spent 5 years as a reporter at Bloomberg news including a period as European airlines reporter and a spell in New York City as technology reporter at Bloomberg’s global headquarters, covering companies including Microsoft, IBM and Motorola and travelling extensively around the US and Canada. She also reported on tech news for Bloomberg Television and made her first documentary based around a long-form interview with Richard Branson.

Beccy was brought up in Lancaster where she attended Lancaster Girls' Grammar School before moving to London where she earned a degree in government and economics from the London School of Economics and a post-graduate diploma in newspaper journalism from City University.

Beccy started her career with a spell at the Blackpool Citizen then financial services trade paper Money Marketing. Having initially trained as a writer, before moving to TV, her articles and columns have appeared in the Daily Telegraph, CityAM, CNBC.com, the New York Times, Boston Globe and Jakarta Post.

Outside of work Beccy is an enthusiastic and wholly untalented sportswoman. In 2015 she competed in IronmanUK (3.8k swim, 180k bike, marathon) and finished in a time of 14 hours and 39 minutes.  She has cycled a lap of Ireland, as well as Land’s End-John O’Groats.

Beccy also volunteers as Girl Guide leader as is an ambassador for Girl Guiding North West.
